Work to begin on playground

KULPMONT - Borough officials announced that final approval has been given from the state Department of Community and Economic Development for work to begin on the new Kulpmont playground at the Terry-Miriello stadium.

A volunteer work detail will be organized in August to begin preparing the area and installing the new equipment. The new playground is funded by a state grant and fundraising efforts organized by resident Joe Cesari and his helpers.

Energy grants available

HARRISBURG - The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is accepting applications from small businesses for the Small Business Advantage Program for pollution prevention and energy efficiency projects, according to Sen. John R. Gordner (R-27). Matching grants of up to $9,500 are available to most small businesses within the commonwealth.

"Well-designed energy efficiency and pollution control projects can assist small businesses by saving money and protecting the environment," said Gordner said.

The project to which the grant will apply must be located within a small businesses facility and must save the business at least 25 percent annually in energy or pollution-related expenses. Businesses that employ 100 workers or less qualify for the program. Eligible projects include installation of energy-efficiency equipment or pollution control devices, processes that reduce energy consumption or use of raw materials or reduce the production of waste.

The department is accepting applications until Sept. 26. Eligible projects must be completed by June 30, 2013. Applications and program guidelines are available at www.depweb.state.pa.us or from the Office Pollution of Prevention and Energy Assistance at the department.
