SUNBURY - Northumberland County Commissioner Vinny Clausi, who is undergoing surgery today, has relinquished his chairmanship duties to vice chairman Stephen Bridy until he recuperates.
The move was approved on a 2-1 vote Tuesday, with Commissioner Richard Shoch dissenting because he doesn't believe it's necessary to relinquish the chairmanship.
Clausi is expected to be laid up for three to five days and will then resume his duties only by phone for a period of six to eight weeks.
Clausi said he did not want to offer any specifics on the operation.
The commissioner, who began his second four-year term in January, asked the media to respect his privacy by not calling him on any issues for the next two weeks.
Bridy told Clausi, "Our prayers are with you."
