State of emergency in Kulpmont
KULPMONT - Mayor Bernard Novakoski announced that effective at noon Thursday, a state of emergency went into effect due to snow accumulation and the winter storm.
Novakoski said the declaration was made to help the borough with reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and to give residents more time to clear off snow from vehicles and driveways.
The state of emergency will be in effect until noon Saturday.
Lifetree discusses afterlife for pets
ELYSBURG - The question "Will man's best friend be there when we reach the pearly gates?" will be explored at Lifetree Cafe from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elysburg Presbyterian Church, 320 W. Valley Ave.
This Lifetree event, "Do Good Dogs Go to Heaven?" explores the intimate connection between pets and their owners, and whether or not pets have a place in heaven. A film will be shown that includes visits to a pet euthanasia expert and with pet cemetery caretakers.
Admission to the 60-minute event is free.

Recycling postponed in Kulpmont
KULPMONT - Due to weather conditions, glass and aluminum will not be collected until the first Tuesday in March.
Correction: The daily flow in gallons at the Lower Mahanoy municipal Wastewater treatment plant is 30,000, not 300,000 as reported Thursday.
