Local gasoline prices are down two cents

Susquehanna Valley gas prices fell two cents to $3.43 a gallon this week, according to AAA East Central.

On the national front

Tuesday's national average price at the pump was $3.22. This price is a penny more expensive than one month ago, but it is four cents less expensive than one week ago and three cents less than one year ago.

The resolution of Gulf Coast production concerns and limited seasonal demand have both contributed to the falling national average. Consumers in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states are expecting some price relief in the days leading up to Christmas as cheaper product makes its way to the region from the Gulf Coast via barge and pipeline. Prices in 36 states and Washington, D.C., are already trending lower.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil continues a ninth consecutive week below $100 per barrel. At the close of Monday's formal trading on the NYMEX, WTI settled at $97.48 per barrel, just pennies higher than the price one week ago.

(AAA East Central - a not-for-profit association with 82 local offices in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, New York and Kentucky servicing 2.7 million members - provides Fuel Gauge each week.)
