MOUNT CARMEL - A borough teen has been charged with multiple felony offenses including robbery for allegedly punching a man in the face with brass knuckles, kicking him and stealing his wallet and cell phone in June.
Thomas Jude Boylan, 19, of 429 W. Second St., was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones and committed to Northumberland County Prison after failing to post $100,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Wednesday afternoon.
Boylan, who is originally from Kulpmont, is charged by Patrolman Jason Drumheller with two felony counts of robbery, a felony of aggravated assault and two misdemeanors of simple assault and theft by unlawful taking in connection with an assault at 5 a.m. June 17 at his home.
According to a criminal complaint, Boylan is accused of attacking Blake Boyer, of Fifth Street, Mount Carmel, while Boyer was sleeping on the floor. Police said Boylan punched Boyer in the face with brass knuckles and kicked him, causing him to lose consciousness and suffer a concussion. Boylan also stole Boyer's wallet and cell phone, police said.
After the robbery and assault, police said Boylan bragged about attacking Boyer on Facebook.
