WILKES-BARRE - A hearing is scheduled in federal court Friday for the Mount Carmel man accused of embezzling more than $7,000 from a local chapter of the United Steelworkers union.
Earlier this month, Bernard C. Nolter Jr. agreed to plead guilty to embezzling $7,047.23 from AFL-CIO Local 635, in which authorities said he made a false entry in the financial records to the Secretary of Labor during the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2011. But he has not yet entered the plea.
An arraignment and plea agreement hearing will take place at 11 a.m. Friday in Courtroom 1 in the U.S. District Court Federal Building, 197 S. Main St., Wilkes Barre, before U.S. Magistrate Judge William I. Arbuckle.
The maximum penalty for false entry or willful concealment of books and records is imprisonment for a period of one year, a fine of $100,000, a supervised release of up to one year, costs of prosecution and denial of certain federal benefits.
