Seven women join Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma

WATSONTOWN - At its May meeting, Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) Society International welcomed seven women educators into active membership. The initiation ceremony was held at the United Methodist Church.

Sigma's new members are:

- Rita Buhay, of Wilburton, a reading specialist for Line Mountain School District.

- Jennifer Gurski, of Coal Township, who is an assistant high school principal at Danville Area High School.

- Michelle Lawrence, of Selinsgrove, an ESL teacher for the Mifflinburg Area School District and adjunct instructor for Susquehanna University.

- Doris Mertz, of Milton, a school nurse for Warrior Run School District.

- Mary Anna Rebar, of Shamokin, an elementary school teacher for the Shikellamy School District.

- Mary Ann Taxis, of Dornsife, a reading specialist/instructional support intervention specialist for Line Mountain School District.

- Amy Wilson, of Northumberland, a reading specialist for Line Mountain School District.

All initiates are invited to join the society by current members and are selected based on their professional qualifications and leadership potential.

This year's nominees for membership were voted on in December and provided orientation in March before being initiated at the May ceremony.

Women who accept the invitation to join Delta Kappa Gamma commit to participating in the activities of the society. DKG is an organization of key women educators with about 100,000 members in eighteen countries. Sigma's membership represents educators from Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties.
