District Court, Gembic: Thursday, May 23, 2013

SHAMOKIN - The following hearings took place Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court June 24 in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

n Vernon L. Hoke Jr., 33, of 716 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, waived to court charges of delivery of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility relating to an April 11 incident at his home.

Hoke is charged by Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II with delivering five 15 mg Oxycodone tablets to a confidential informant.

n Curt Elwood Phillips, 49, of 1312 W. Walnut St., Coal Township, waived to court charges of burglary, simple assault and harassment involving an April 26 disturbance at 118 N. Poplar St.

Phillips was charged by Coal Township Deputy Police Chief Chris Williams with breaking into the residence through the front door and punching Jeffrey Burns, 48, of Coal Township, several times in the face while he was on a couch with Phillips' estranged wife, Debbie Phillips. Burns suffered a laceration over his left eye that required emergency room treatment at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

n Michael Reeser, 23, of 30 W. Willow St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $100 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for six months.

Additional charges of resisting arrest and obstructing administration of the law were withdrawn.

Reeser was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Nathan Rhodes in connection with an April 13 fight at 34 W. Willow St. that involved Aleksey Zokhrabekov, 37, pointing a loaded handgun at Reeser.

n Charges of simple assault and harassment filed by Shamokin Cpl. Bryan Primerano against Andrew D. Long, 32, of 19 N. First St., Shamokin, were dismissed when his wife, Tiffany Long, refused to testify against him.

The defendant was charged with grabbing his wife by the throat and pushing her to the ground before choking her, causing neck pain. Police said Andrew Long also was accused of causing damage to the home and a cell phone, which prevented his wife from calling 911.

Police said the disturbance occurred April 22 at the couple's residence.

n Kaddafi S. Loatman, 26, of Shamokin, waived to court charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, recklessly endangering another person, hit and run, driving without a license, failure to drive in a single lane, failure to stop at a stop sign, two turning violations, speeding, careless driving, reckless driving, failure to give information and render aid, criminal mischief and driving an uninspected vehicle.

The charges filed by Trooper Todd Leiby of state police at Stonington relate to an April 14 chase and accident along Route 2044 near Trevorton.

Loatman also was held for court on charges of delivery of cocaine and criminal conspiracy relating to an April 19 incident in east end of Coal Township.

The charges were filed by Coal Township Patrolman Joshua Wynn and Mount Carmel Patrolman Matthew Dillman.

n Nathan D. Yucha, 27, of 1092 State Route 901, Coal Township, waived to court a retail theft charge filed by Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Henrich.

Yucha was charged with stealing $85.52 worth of merchandise from Wal-Mart Supercenter on Route 61 on April 5.

n Jessica Long, 23, of 1125 W. Gowen St., Coal Township, pleaded guilty to harassment and was ordered to pay a $100 fine plus costs. An additional charge of simple assault was withdrawn.

Long was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Joshua Wynn with assaulting her live-in boyfriend, Christopher Powell, at their residence May 13.

n Joseph Witkowski, 26, of 640 Chestnut St., Apt. 6, Kulpmont, waived to court charges of delivery of heroin, possession with intent to deliver heroin and criminal use of a communication facility involving a Dec. 6 incident in Coal Township.

The charges were filed by Shamokin Cpl. Bryan Primerano and Coal Township Patrolman Joshua Wynn.

Witkowski also waived to court a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia filed by Shamokin Patrolman Nathan Rhodes in connection with an April 8 incident in the first block of East Lincoln Street.
