SHAMOKIN - Northumberland County is expected to get about the same amount of snow from the latest winter storm as it has from most of the other 13 that have hit the area this season: a few inches.
The strong storm that could bring 10 to 20 inches in higher elevations of West Virginia and western Virginia was expected to have reached the area at about 1 a.m. this morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch was expected, but that precipitation is expected to continue today and accumulate 1 to 2 more inches. The high is forecast for 35 today, but a northeast wind of 11 to 15 mph will make it seem much colder, NWS reported.
There's a chance of snow tonight, with a low around 29 and a north wind around 15 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent and new snow accumulation of less than one inch is expected.
There is just a slight chance of snow Thursday as temperatures warm to near 38, and Friday should be mostly sunny with a high of 42.
