EXCELSIOR - A 17-year-old Mount Carmel girl was injured Tuesday after crashing into a thicket off Route 901 in Mount Carmel Township.
Jenna Jurasich was driving a Ford Explorer east about 8:20 p.m. when she swerved to avoid an animal and lost control of her vehicle, crossing the westbound lanes and crashing into a densely wooded area, according to Patrolman Kelly Campbell, Mount Carmel Township Police.
The vehicle crashed through a dead tree and brush, continuing into the woods about 30 feet before coming to rest against a small tree, narrowly missing several larger trees that could have caused more significant damage and injury.
According to emergency reports, Jurasich called her father from a cell phone, who then called 911. She was treated at the scene for a right arm injury and lacerations and was driven by AREA Services ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Jurasich was the vehicle's lone occupant.
Emergency responders used a chainsaw to clear some brush to allow Dave's Auto Body, Kulpmont, to pull the Blazer from the woods before towing it from the scene.
Assisting at the scene were Mount Carmel Area Rescue Squad, Locust Gap Fire Company and Coal Township Police.
