MOUNT CARMEL - Four Mount Carmel Area students were named Elks students of the month.
Robert Varano, the Elks Student of the Month for December, is a son of Rob and Lisa Varano. Varano participates in football, track and basketball. He is president of the senior class and plays the trumpet in the marching band. Additional interests include surfing and snowboarding. He plans to attend a four-year college to earn a degree in business.
Lauren Hause, the Elks Junior Student of the Month for December, is a daughter of Sandra and Harvey Hause, of Den Mar Gardens. Her activities include cross country, track and field, swimming, Interact club, chemistry club, Future Nurses of America and Future Teachers of America. Her previous honors include National Honor Society, cross country captain, secretary of Future Nurses of America and first team cross country all-star. Her interests include running, reading and spending time with friends and family. She plans are to attend a four-year college.
Ninth-grader Elizabeth Cooper, the Elks Teen of the Month for December, is a daughter of Richard and Cheryl Cooper, of Kulpmont. A distinguished honors student, she participates in JV football cheerleading, ski club, the school play and spring track and field. She has previously been awarded the merit and junior high Pride Award winner. Her interests include running, weightlifting, skiing, karate and hanging out with friends. She plans to attend college to major in chemistry and biology, and then pursue a career in the medical field or to join the Navy.
Seventh-grader Ben McFadden, an Elks Junior Teen of the Month, is a son of William and Ann McFadden, of Oak Ridge Estates. McFadden is involved with the Boy Scouts and Odyssey of the Mind, and is on the seventh grade basketball team. He is a distinguished honor roll student and a previous Merit Award winner. He is interested in computers and enjoys keeping tabs on the newest scientific achievements. He plans to become a technological engineer or to pursue a career in the medical field.
