Vets, sponsors sought for banner honor
SUNBURY - Banners picturing veterans and active duty servicemen and women with ties to Northumberland County will be hung on Front and Market streets in Sunbury.
Sunbury's Revitalization Inc. is currently accepting information and photos for the banners as well as banner sponsors.
The Hometown Veteran banners will honor both active-duty and veteran soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines with roots in Northumberland County.
Banners will be proudly on display from May through November and will include the veteran's name, picture, branch, honors and era of service. In November, the banners will be cleaned and returned to the veteran or his or her family.
Banner sponsorships are $200. Businesses, organizations, families or individuals are welcome to be a sponsor and the sponsor's name will also be included on the banner.
Pick up sponsorship forms at Sunbury Municipal Building, 225 Market St., Northumberland County Veterans Affairs Office, 399 S. Fifth St., American Legion Post 201, 611 Market St., VFW Thomas-Brill Post, 2 Shikellamy Road, and Susquehanna Bank locations in Sunbury, Shamokin, Kulpmont, Mount Carmel, Milton and Pillow, or online at www.sripa.com.
All forms and photos must be submitted to the SRI office by March 1. Special arrangements can be made by calling SRI at 286-7768.
An unveiling ceremony is planned for May 4.
