Deadline Saturday for fair entries
SUNBURY - The deadline for those mailing entries to be part of the Northumberland County Fair is Saturday. Entries can be mailed to Northumberland County Fair, 3920 State Route 890, Sunbury 17801.
For categories, entry fees and other information, visit the fair's website at www.northumberlandcountyfair.com. The Northumberland County Fair will be held from Thursday, Aug. 19, to Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Tall Cedars Grove.
Food distribution set for Saturday
MOUNT CARMEL - Mount Carmel Borough Food Pantry will distribute food from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Notary Shop, 215 S. Oak St. for borough residents who have signed up in the past.
Residents of the Mount Carmel Mid Rise are asked to meet in the lobby for 10 a.m.
Residents of Willow Court are asked to meet in the lobby at 11 a.m.
Learn about creatures of the garden
HARRISBURG - Gov. Tom Wolf and first lady Frances Wolf invite the public to visit the Governor's Residence Sunday for the upcoming "Second Sunday" event, focused on Creatures of the Garden.
Each second Sunday from June through September, visitors are invited to attend a series of free summer events at the Governor's Residence and gardens from 1 to 4 p.m. Each event highlights a specific theme and features family-friendly activities.
The theme of this week's event will feature presentations by the Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary, ZooAmerica, the Backyard Beekeepers Association and the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Residence tour guides will also be available to provide information; visitors are invited to participate in self-guided tours of the residence and gardens.
Additionally, Second Sunday event visitors will be able to view the current art exhibition, "Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania; Through the Lens of Paul W. Meyer," which is on display in the state rooms through Aug. 31.
