COAL TOWNSHIP - A 27-year-old Coal Township resident has been charged with repeatedly punching and kicking a man and slamming his head off the ground numerous times in the parking lot outside Brady Fire Company on Oct. 20.

Richard "Ricky" J. Madden, of 1000 W. Willow St., was arraigned at 10:30 a.m. Thursday by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III on a felony of aggravated assault and misdemeanors of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Dale Wilk Jr., 31, of 2004 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, the victim of the assault, suffered bruises and scrapes on his head and face as a result of the attack and required emergency room treatment at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

Wilk told police he has "blacked out" since the assault and continues to consult with a family doctor. Wilk said he still has a lump on his head from the assault.

A witness told police she saw Wilk walk out of the fire company around 2:30 a.m. The witness said Madden rushed out of the fire company after Wilk and began hitting and kicking the victim while repeatedly slamming his head off the ground. She recalled Madden yelling at the victim. The witness said Madden was jumping up and down while yelling at Wilk.

Another witness also reported seeing Madden hitting Wilk numerous times.

Wilk told police Madden punched him in the head and continued to hit and kick him in the head while yelling at him.

Madden was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
