MC Twp. plans National Night Out

ATLAS - Neighbors throughout Mount Carmel Township are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 29th annual National Night Out and Mount Carmel Township's fourth annual crime and drug prevention event today.

National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by Mount Carmel Township police, firefighters, emergency medical services personnel and local businesses. The local event coordinator is Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Kelly Campbell.

From 6 to 9 p.m., residents in neighborhoods throughout Mount Carmel Township and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Mount Carmel Township police, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel will be hosting a variety of special events at the township municipal complex. There will be food, beverages, entertainment and surprises for children.

A special guest appearance will be made by Northumberland County Sheriff Chad Reiner and his K-9 partner Clark.

Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania National Guard also will participate.

Food distribution set

MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Borough Food Pantry will have its monthly distribution from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Notary Shop, 215 S. Oak St. Participants are asked to bring the green bags back with them.

Township to share food

ATLAS - The Mount Carmel Township Food Pantry will hold its monthly food distribution from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the township complex in Atlas. Residents in Atlas, Diamondtown, Strong, Locust Gap, Connorsville, Dooleyville and Beaverdale who have signed up previously are eligible.
