SHAMOKIN - The Shamokin Rotary Club will hold its fifth annual Prettiest Baby Contest at the upcoming Anthracite Heritage Festival Saturday, May 23. Baby photos (8x10 size) of all babies two years old or younger by May 23 are requested to be dropped off at Baders Furniture, 704 N. Liberty St., Shamokin, before Friday, May 22. There will be a registration fee of $5 for every baby picture entered in the contest.
The baby pictures will be displayed at the Shamokin Rotary booth during the heritage festival. People can then vote for their favorite "prettiest baby" for $1 a vote. The baby picture that receives the most votes will receive a $100 prize.
Proceeds from the contest will be used for community service projects by the Shamokin Rotary. The club's many service projects to the community include providing dictionaries to every third-grade student, the Santa sleigh, supporting Manna for the Many, Relay for Life and sponsoring a Little Leage Baseball team. The culb also recognizes sudent of the month from the Northumberland County Career and Technology Center. Shamokin Rotary also sponsors an exchange student from Germany for the 2014-15 school year at Shamokin Area Middle/High School.
