SHAMOKIN - Five contestants picked perfect scores in the final week of The News-Item Footbal Contest.
It was Ron Morgan, of 441 W. Cherry St., Mount Carmel, however, who claimed the first prize of a $50 gift certificate with the closest guess of this week's highest point total. Morgan guessed 52 points while the high point total was 59, scored by the New England Patriots in their 59-24 drubbing of the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Taking second place was Melanie Wengrenovich, of Kulpmont, winning a $25 gift certificate by picking 12 out of 12 games correctly and guessing 51 points as the top score of the week.
Ruth Bresko, of 1421 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, guessed 50 points as the top score, earning third place and a $15 gift certificate, good at any of the participating sponsors.
Sam Dascani, of 1043 W. Willow St., Coal Township, and Jackie Olearnick, of 42 N. Market St., Mount Carmel, also picked 12 out of 12 games correctly, but had guesses of 45 and 46 points respectively. They, along with the three winners, will be entered into the grand prize drawing of $200 cash.
