COAL TOWNSHIP - Sixteen members of the Shamokin Area High School Competition Band will participate in the nationally televised Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day parade as part of the Tournament of Bands (TOB) All-Star Band.
Participating members are Alisha Black, Nicole Cullen, Alyssa Green, Katelyn Green, Molly Hasuga, Ashley Keiser, Amber Martin, Marielle Miller, Autumn Peck, Adam Richardson, Melissa Rishel, Graeme Shappell, Samantha Spishock, Brianna Wengrenovich, Danielle Wilk and Cailin Wilson.
"This a great honor for our band program," said Kevin B. Styer, director of bands for Shamokin Area School District.
The band placed fifth in the TOB Atlantic Coast Championships Group 2-A competition held Oct. 27 Central Dauphin High School, Harrisburg. The event includes more than 100 bands from nine states that compete in various groups. The week prior, the Shamokin Area band won the TOB Group 2-A Chapter 4 Championship at Bloomsburg University.
TOB, a nonprofit educational organization, is one of the largest band organizations in the country. It is divided into 13 chapters that encompass nine states.
