SHAMOKIN - A youth girls basketball tournament raised $672 for the Snydertown-area family devastated by a fatal fire that destroyed their home.

Fourteen teams from the Shamokin Youth Girls Basketball League participated in the second annual Dennis Chaundy Memorial Tournament held Wednesday through Friday at the Shamokin Area Elementary Annex. The players were students from second grade through eighth grade. Championship games were held at the annex Sunday.

Proceeds were deposited Monday into the Dissinger Family Fund at M/C Federal Credit Union, 230 Walnut St., Danville.

Arthur Willis, 2, Gavin Arthur, 7, and Daniel Gage Dissinger, 13, all of 60 S. Smith Road, died in the fire reported at 1:20 a.m. April 4. They are survived by their mother, Christine (Hontz) Dissinger, and siblings Kristyn, Angel and Ryan.

The player medals and team championship trophies were presented by Bernadette "Bernie" and Katelyne "Katie" Chaundy, Dennis' wife and daughter, respectively, at the conclusion of the tournament. The Chaundy's son, Terrance, was present Friday.

The SYGBL noted a collective overwhelming act of generosity by the Chaundy family, players, coaches and attendees.

Fundraiser today, Wednesday

A separate fundraiser will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday when representatives of Shamokin and Coal Township fire companies go door to door to collect money for the Dissingers.

The fund drive was organized by Northumberland County Commissioner Vinny Clausi and has been endorsed by the Coal Township Board of Commissioners and Shamokin City Council, Clausi said.

Clausi said he will match up to $10,000.
