SHAMOKIN - The following hearings took place Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court Dec. 31 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

n David A. Madara, 57, of 749 Old Reading Turnpike, Paxinos, waived to court two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to possess a registration card, careless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, failure to drive in a single lane, limitations on driving on the left side of the road, a tire tread violation and failure to produce a valid insurance card.

The charges filed by Trooper Barry Wooten of state police at Stonington relate to an Oct. 13 incident on Irish Valley Road (Route 4026) in Shamokin Township.

n Michael P. McGuire, 34, of 8 N. Second St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to a summary offense of harassment and was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus costs. An additional charge of simple assault was withdrawn.

The charges filed by Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II relate to a Sept. 27 disturbance at McGuire's residence.

n Blaine Hoover, 22, of 1400 W. State St., Coal Township, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for six months.

The charges were filed by Shamokin Cpl. Bryan Primerano in connection with a Sept. 22 incident in the area of Terrace Avenue.

n Shirley J. Kessler, 46, of 344 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, waived to court charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and careless driving relating to a June 19 accident on Route 61 near East End Auto.

The charges were filed by Coal Township Patrolman Christopher Lapotsky.

n Michael McGinley, 26, of 325 S. Plum St., Mount Carmel, waived to court two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, a red light violation, restrictions on alcoholic beverages and driving under suspension involving a Nov. 12, 2001, incident on Route 61 at Burger King.

The charges were filed by Coal Township Patrolman Terry Ketchem Jr.

n Shayla Snyder, 22, of 1544 W. Mulberry St., Coal Township, pleaded guilty to summary offenses of harassment and criminal mischief and was ordered to pay fines totaling $300 plus costs and make restitution in the amount of $239.59. An additional charge of disorderly conduct was withdrawn.

Snyder was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Edward Purcell with punching a windshield on a sport utility vehicle owned by Kathy Derck, causing damage totaling $731.88. She also is accused of spitting in Derck's face.

Police said the disturbances occurred June 15 at 1435 Hemlock St.

n Brian Tehansky, 20, of 314 S. Coal St., Shamokin, and Zachery Whitmer, 21, of 319 N. Shamokin St., third floor, Shamokin, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and were each ordered to pay a $200 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year. Additional charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and hindering were withdrawn.

Tehansky and Whitmer were charged by Shamokin Patrolman William Miner in connection with a Nov. 5 incident at 702 Bear Valley Ave.

n Anthony Richard Haag, 24, of 125 W. Fifth St., Mount Carmel, waived to court charges of theft and receiving stolen property.

He is charged by Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Henrich with stealing $1,651.43 from McDonald's on Route 61 while he was employed there on May 31.

n Donna McDonald, 30, of 228 S. Franklin St., Shamokin, waived to court a retail theft charge filed by Coal Township Patrolman Chad Yoder.

Police said McDonald allegedly stole $159.70 in merchandise from Wal-Mart Supercenter on Route 61 on Sept. 19 and Sept. 21.

n Kenneth Allen Latshaw, 37, of 804 W. Fifth St., Mount Carmel, waived to court a retail theft charge filed by Coal Township Patrolman Edward Purcell.

Latshaw is accused of stealing two coffee pots valued at $150 and a 47-inch television valued at $850 from Wal-Mart Supercenter along Route 61 on Sept. 14.

n Lucas Dietrich, 29, of 1131 W. Montgomery St., Coal Township, waived to court two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, careless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with a July 13 accident at Fir and Wood streets.

The charges were filed by Coal Township Patrolman Edward Purcell.
