G.C. Hartman to hold kindergarten registration

CATAWISSA RR - G.C. Hartman Elementary Center will hold kindergarten registration for the 2014-15 school year on the following dates:

- Monday, March 31 - 8:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.

- Tuesday, April 1 - 8:40 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.

- Wednesday, April 2 - 8:40 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.

- Thursday, April 3 - 8:40 a.m. to 4:20 p.m.

- Friday, April 4 - 8:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.

The elementary office will begin taking appointments March 1. Call the school at 570-356-3250 between the hours of 8:50 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to schedule an appointment.

If you cannot make an appointment on any of these dates, an additional registration will be held Wednesday, April 9. Appointment times will be between 9 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. After the April 9 registration date, appointments will be scheduled during the summer. Call the district office after the last day of school to schedule a summer appointment.

Students must be 5 years old prior to Sept. 1, 2014. Registering first grade students who are not Southern Columbia students this year must be 6 years old prior to Sept. 1, 2013.

Children registering for kindergarten must accompany the parents to registration in order to participate in screening tests for vision, hearing and speech.

To enroll a student, parents need to bring their child's birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency. Without these records, your child cannot be registered. If your child does not have his/her birth certificate, you may present a baptismal certificate or transcript of the record of baptism-duly certified and showing the date of birth, a notarized statement from the parents indicating the birth date, or a duly attested transcript of the birth certificate. If you have custody papers pertaining to your child, present them at this time.

Acceptable proof of residency documents include PPL bill, phone bill, Pennsylvania drivers license, Pennsylvania vehicle registration or copy of a paystub with employer's name and address and employee's name and address on stub.

State law requires the following immunizations to be completed before a student can be admitted to school: DTaP or DT (diphtheris/tetanus/pertusis), four to five doses (last dose on or after fourth birthday); polio (Salk or Sabin) vaccine, three doses (OVP or IVP); MMR (measles/mumps/rubella), two doses (first MMR on or after first birthday); hepatitis B vaccine (properly spaced), three doses (third dose on or after 6 months of age); varicella (chicken pox vaccine), two doses on or after first birthday or history of disease. DT (dipheria/tetanus) is accepted if allergic to pertusis vaccine.
