Two arrested after returning to 'scene of the crime'

COAL TOWNSHIP - Two 18-year-old males were apprehended by police after they went back to the scene of a crime at the former Kmart department store.

Coal Township police charged Kenneth K. Koons Jr., of 103 S. Poplar St., and Emmanual Temple, of 614 N. Shamokin St., Apt. 506, Shamokin, with burglary and related charges following a Jan. 19 incident at the building just off Route 61.

Police say Koons and Temple entered the vacant building at approximately 3 a.m. looking for metal items. After removing some items, the two men left.

Koons and Temple went back to the store later that day for more metal, but were apprehended by Coal Township police. Officers then recovered the stolen items the duo took earlier.

Both men face charges of burglary, criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, criminal attempt to commit theft by unlawful taking and possession of instruments of a crime. They were arraigned Friday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin, and released on their own recognizance. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday before Gembic.

Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Shamokin City Police and Pennsylvania State Police.
