MOUNT CARMEL – The second annual Coaches vs. Cancer basketball tournament between rivals Mount Carmel Area and Southern Area will take place at the Mount Carmel Area high school gym Saturday.
Tipoff for the boys JV team is at 3 p.m., JV girls at 4:30 p.m., varsity boys at 6 p.m. and varsity girls at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the matchups on the court, there are a lot of great things happening to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
First a goodie tub brimming with treats and refreshments will be raffled off. Additionally more than 20 gift cards from local merchants, such as Hollywood Pizza, Schicky’s Wings and Things, Cinnamon Stix and others, will be raffled at $2 a chance. A student-run “duck toss” will take place between the girls’ and boys’ varsity games, with winners receiving cash prizes. The numbered ducks cost $2 each and students will sell them as well as 50/50’s chances at the door and in the bleachers.
A limited supply of special design light blue T-shirts with the blue cancer ribbon and both schools’ logos will be available for purchase for $10 to $12 each depending on size. Players from both Mount Carmel Area and Southern Area will wear the shirts during warm up and fans are encouraged to wear them, too.
Money raised supports the American Cancer Society. For more information call the Mount Carmel Area School District at 570-339-1500.
