SHAMOKIN - The Pregnancy Care Center, 150 S. Market St., held its third annual fundraising banquet Oct. 16 at Masser's Banquet Hall, with 230 people present. The focus was on "the adoption option."
Guest speaker was Cheryl Weller, pro-life advocate and leader. She talked about her adoption and shared powerful testimony on reuniting with her birth parent after 41 years. She asked those present to make a monetary gift or a pledge during the upcoming year and to pray for the Pregnancy Care Center in its efforts to help those in need.
The center's fundraising goal of $40,000 for the year was exceeded, with $43,754 raised.
"We assure all donors that the varied services we provide, from confidential self-administered pregnancy tests to peer counseling for men and women in parenting skills, to relationship counseling for sexual wholeness and pre- and post-adoption counseling and post-abortion counseling and material assistance, will continue at the Pregnancy Care Center," said Margie Conrad, director.
Conrad said the center will continue to offer those in need services and material assistance through the "Earn while You Learn Program," which includes watching CDs.
The Christian-based ministry is supported solely by churches, businesses and individuals, with no government funding, Conrad said.
