COAL TOWNSHIP - Shamokin Area Elementary School will be registering children for its Pre-k (kindergarten for four-year-olds) program for the 2014-15 school year. Pre-k is comprised of half day sessions held in the elementary building. Transportation is provided to the school for the morning class and home from school for the afternoon class (parents need to provide mid-day transportation). No lunch is provided for either session. Through the efforts of the instructors, these programs have been especially designed to meet the developmental needs of four-year-old children.
Registration for Pre-k will be held April 8 and 9 at the elementary school office by appointment only. To be eligible, children must be four years of age by the first day of school, tentatively set for Monday, Sept. 8. Parents are asked to call the elementary school office at 570-648-5721 ext. 2900 after Feb. 1 to make an appointment.
Children must have received all of the following immunizations for admission to school: hepatitis B (three doses); diphtheria/tetanus (four doses with one dose on or after the fourth birthday), polio (three doses), two doses measles, two dose mumps, one dose rubella and two doses of varicella (vaccine or history of disease).
The entire process will take from 10 to 15 minutes. The child does not need to be present.
At registration, parents must present a certified copy of the child's birth or baptismal certificate, a record of all immunizations (shots), a history of the child's health, including serious illness, proof of residency and a copy of custody order, if applicable.
During the registration process, appointments will be made for testing to be completed on each child May 12 to 15.
