COAL TOWNSHIP - A township man's Chevrolet Camaro was damaged after he opened the driver-side door and struck a passing school bus Tuesday morning.
Township police say Gary E. Dombroski, 66, of 1115 W. Arch St., was sitting in his car outside his home at 7:22 a.m. when he opened the door into the path of a westbound 2012 International school bus. The door struck a rear tire on the bus and sustained moderate damage.
There were 15 students from Shamokin Area School District aboard the bus driven by Barbara A. Banks, 54, of 313 Main St., Ranshaw. They were evaluated by a district administrator and a school nurse, according to a district official. None were injured.
The bus continued its route and the students were dropped off at school. It is owned by Marvin E. Klinger Inc., Dornsife, for which the driver is employed. A second Klinger-owned school bus crashed into three row homes about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday along Bear Valley Avenue in Shamokin. (See separate story.)
Dombroski was cited for a vehicle code violation, "opening and closing vehicle doors."
