Swimming practice clarification

COAL TOWNSHIP - Special Olympics PA Northumberland-Snyder is hosting swimming practice from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Friday, Feb. 7, at Shamokin Area High School pool, not this coming Friday as reported in Tuesday's edition of The News-Item. Practices will be held every Friday following unless school is cancelled.

Driver's license holiday hours

HARRISBURG -All PennDOT driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Saturday, Jan. 18, through Monday, Jan. 20, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services online through PennDOT's Driver and Vehicle Services website, www.dmv.state.pa.us.

Driver and vehicle online services are available 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week and include driver's license, photo ID and vehicle registration renewals; driver-history services; changes of address; driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters; ability to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver license and photo ID duplicates, and driver exam scheduling. There are no additional fees for using online services.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to www.511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions before heading out.

Gold Sock benefit game Saturday

MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Area and Hughesville girls basketball squads will don gold socks Saturday to helps raise awareness of pediatric cancer.

The game will be played following the completion of the 6 p.m. junior varsity game. Donations will be accepted to benefit Mount Carmel's Fall Dance Marathon benefiting Geisinger's ThinkBIG Pediatric Cancer Fund.

ThinkBIG is a program that aims to offset stress for pediatric oncology families by providing financial support for unexpected out-of-pocket expenses. Donations and proceeds go directly to help families treated at Janet Weis Children's Hospital and throughout the entire Geisinger network.
