IRISH VALLEY - The Cecilian Club opened its season with October's meeting held at Clark's Grove United Methodist Church. Nan Weller, president, presided over this open meeting which was well attended by members and thirteen guests. Weller welcomed everyone and explained that there will be a change in format this year. All club meetings will be open to the public, and the concert part of the meeting will be first on the agenda so that guests don't have to sit through the business meeting.

Marily Stasney read a selection titled "Embracing the Ebb," from the book Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach. The theme for the musical program for October was "Around the World." Grethel Vinup opened with a piano solo, "Venetian Love Song," by Nevin. Grace Stank and Martha Lynch, accompanied by Margaret Morris on piano, sang "Far Away Places," by Whitney and Kramer.

Mary Anne Miller played a clarinet solo, "Cascade's Rag," by Joplin. She was accompanied by Irvin Liachowitz on piano. Rob Ensinger sang "Isle of Capri," by Grose. He was accompanied by Bonny Klinger. Next was a piano solo, as Carolyn Weaver played "On Jordan's Stormy Banks," arranged by Berry.

Morris, Stasney and Kathi Christ, accompanied by Vinup, sang "Vienna, City of My Dreams," by Sieczynski, arranged by MacLean. Next was "My Wild Irish Rose," by Olcott, with Ensinger on trombone and Klinger on piano.

Charlene Pell, Linda Latsha, and Miller sang "April in Portugal," by Ferrao. They were accompanied by Weller. The concert finished with a flourish as Klinger and Liachowitz played a piano duet, "Spanish Dances," by Moszkowski. This was followed by the entire group singing a hymn.

A brief business meeting followed. The Christmas banquet will be held the second Monday of December at Harry's. The group will be caroling at the Shamokin-Geisinger Community Hospital Dec. 17.

A time of refreshments and fellowship followed.

The next meeting will be held Nov. 12, at the First Presbyterian Church.

The public is invited to this "strictly instrumental" program.
