LEWISBURG - The American Red Cross has kicked off its annual Holiday Mail for Heroes program.
The public is asked to donate new, unused holiday greeting cards to be sent to service men and women serving around the world as well as to those in veterans' hospitals and nursing homes in our community.
Cards can be dropped off at the SUN Area Red Cross building at 249 Farley Circle and at libraries in Milton and the Degenstein Library and Priestley libraries in Sunbury.
A card signing and open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at the American Red Cross chapter in Lewisburg where people may come in and enjoy light refreshments while they write messages of thanks and good wishes in the cards.
Homemade cards are always appreciated, and while the Red Cross does not wish to be the "Grinch" this year, they ask that cards remain glitter free. Envelopes are not necessary.

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from caring individuals and, in part, by contributions given through the United Way.
