Oak Street parking restriction
MOUNT CARMEL - Parking along Oak Street from Avenue to Sixth Street will be restricted from 6 a.m. Monday until snow is pushed to the curb. Citizens are reminded not to pile snow around fire hydrants; rather, clean the snow from around hydrants.
'89 grads sought to organize reunion
WEIGH SCALES - Members of Shamokin Area High School's Class of 1989 are invited and encouraged to join classmates at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Wayside Inn, Route 61, to begin planning a 25th anniversary reunion.
Work set on interstates next week
A lane closure is scheduled for Interstate 80 westbound at the Mifflinville river bridge project in Columbia County next week, PennDOT reports.
Weather permitting, on Wednesday, the contractor will set the last round of beams on the eastbound lanes. There will be rolling roadblocks eastbound to slow traffic from mile 236 (Lightstreet Exit) to mile 241 (Berwick Exit) while the beams are picked from the eastbound lanes of I-80 and set on the eastbound river bridge. This will take place between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
In Schuylkill County, bridge inspection forces will be out on Interstate 81 southbound between Exit 138 (PA 309) and Exit 134 (Delano) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. There will be lane restrictions that are expected to cause delays.
The same work will take place in the same area and at the same times but on northbound lanes on Tuesday.
PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check interstate traffic conditions before heading out.
Christmas tree pickup
KULPMONT - Residents are reminded that Kulpmont Borough will pick up Christmas trees.
Residents of Chestnut Street should place their trees in the alley for pickup. There will be no collection on Chestnut Street.
