VNA seeks blankets for storm victims

SHAMOKIN - Blankets are being sought by VNA Health System to donate to homebound patients in New York City who are without power following the natural disaster caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Donated blankets can be dropped off anytime Saturday or Sunday at the rear of AREA Services administrative building, 300 W. Water St., or from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at VNA's downtown Shamokin office, 21 W. Independence St.

All blankets will be distributed to those in need by the Visiting Nurse Service of New York.

Veterans Day activities slated

MOUNT CARMEL - The following activities are planned to mark Veterans Day in the Mount Carmel area:

- Mount Carmel Area Elementary School will hold its Veterans Day program in the high school auditorium at 9:30 a.m. Friday. All area veterans are invited. Meet at the auditorium at 9:15 a.m.

- Mount Carmel Area Joint Veterans Committee will holds its Veterans Day service at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at United Presbyterian Church, 100 E. Fifth St. Veterans attending should meet at the church at 10:45 a.m. The public is invited.

- Mount Carmel Area Joint Veterans Committee will begin its Veterans Day observance at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at American Legion Post 91, Avenue and Maple Street. The Mount Carmel Area High School program will be held in the high school auditorium at 9:30 a.m. Services at Third and Oak streets and Second and Oak streets will be held after the program. All area veterans and the public are invited to attend.
