HERNDON - A fresh snowfall created a magical backdrop for the Herndon Borough Holiday House Decorating Contest held Sunday.
As they went house to house, the three judges - Steve Bobb, Elaine Schmick of Schmick Photography and Lorrie Snyder of Bittersweet Designs by Lorrie, were greeted with sparkling icicle lights, twinkling stars, festive candy canes and even jolly old Santa Claus himself.
Winners were: traditional, Sheryl Gilligan; most original, Sheri and Jarrod Shadle; and "craziest," Roger Lebo, all of North Main Street.
Winners in each category received a gift certificate for Schiano's Ice Cream & More, Herndon.
Additional homes registered were Pat and Dave Eyster residence, Snyder-Eyster Insurance Agency, Alexis and Mike Schaffner, Ann and Roger Botkin and Jean and Jeff Aurand.
It was easy to see that the residents of each beautifully decorated home put much time, thought and energy into their entry and the spirit of Christmas shone throughout the borough.
