TREVORTON - A 22-year-old West Hazleton man was in critical condition Saturday after he wrecked into a tree causing his pickup truck to burst into flames.
Otto R. Jacome was taken by Trevorton Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after the 10 a.m. crash along Route 225 about 1.4 miles south of Trevorton near the Zerbe Township-Little Mahanoy Township line.
Jacome was driving north in a 2003 Ford F-250 when he lost control, drove down an embankment crashed into one tree and deflected into another.
Trooper Brian Ronk, state police at Stonington, said a passing motorist removed Jacome from the pickup. It's not clear if Jacome was out of the vehicle before it caught fire.
The highway between Trevorton and Dornsife was closed until the wreckage was cleared. Trevorton fire and emergency units and Rescue 62 from Coal Township responded.
A light snow had begun to accumulate when the crash occurred but police did not indicate if it played a factor in the crash.
Assisting at the scene was AREA Services Ambulance.
