Library makes year-end appeal
MOUNT CARMEL - Mount Carmel Area Public Library officials asked residents to consider making a contribution to the library before the end of the year. Any donation made by Dec. 31 qualifies for a 2013 tax deduction, they noted.
Gifts may be made "in honor" or "in memory" of a loved one. Library officials, expressing appreciation for any support, noted that donations touch the lives of children and families.
The library also has many items that can be given as holiday gifts, including hardback best-sellers for $2 each; Mount Carmel Borough 150th anniversary memorabilia, 25-pound Mount Carmel Area Red Tornado stepping stone, the book, "Anthracite Coal Region's Slavic Community," framed original color art prints by area native Dan Bridy and books by local authors.
Decorating, lighting ceremony set
ATLAS - Mount Carmel Township supervisors invite all children who live in the township to a tree decorating and lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday in front of the municipal building at 300 Laurel St.
Santa Claus will visit and there will be treats for children.
