SHAMOKIN - Work is under way on a $1.8 million water main replacement in Shamokin and Coal Township.
The "Oak Street project," as Aqua Pennsylvania is calling it, began Nov. 11 and should be completed by June. It involves the replacement of 6,700 feet of cast-iron pipes with new ductile-iron pipes. The pipes will range in diameter from 8 to 20 inches, replacing pipes that are 8, 12, 14 and 16 inches in diameter.
The project also includes work at 107 customer hookups and seven hydrants.
Construction began on North Second Street near the Cameron Bridge and will also involve the following streets:
Second Street to West Walnut, Walnut to North Oak, Oak to West Spruce, Spruce to South Maple, Maple to West Gowen, Gowen to South Oak, Maple to West Pine, Pine to South Oak and Oak to Mulberry.
