MCA presents holiday concerts

MOUNT CARMEL - Students at Mount Carmel Area will perform holiday concerts this month.

The junior high chorus and band will present a concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, in the high school auditorium under the direction of junior-senior high school music teacher Melinda Hoopes. The chorus will perform "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and the medley "Christmas in Three Minutes" and the band will play "Winter Wonderland" and the "March of the Kings," among other selections.

The senior high holiday concert will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in the high school auditorium. The senior high chorus, also directed by Hoopes, will perform "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "Believe" from The Polar Express and more. The senior high band, directed by Bernard Stellar, will perform medleys of Christmas songs, including "A Fireside Christmas," "Christmas Rock" and "Symphonic Prelude on Adeste Fideleis." The concert will conclude with the band and chorus, along with audience participation, performing the "Christmas Sing-Along."

The fifth- and sixth-grade elementary band will perform at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, in the elementary cafeteria. The band will play "The little Drummer Boy" and "Jingle Bells" along with other selections. The elementary band is directed by elementary band instructor Nicole Rosko.

Penance services scheduled

The Northumberland Deanery of the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg will hold its annual Advent penance services Dec. 15 at Our Lady of Hope Church in Coal Township; Dec. 16 at Holy Angels Church in Kulpmont; Dec. 17 at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Elysburg; Dec. 18 at Divine Redeemer Church in Mount Carmel, and Dec. 19 at St. Patrick Church in Trevorton.

All services begin at 7 p.m.
