SHAMOKIN - The following hearings took place Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court Oct. 21 in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

n Albert J. Schweitzer III, 38, of 335 W. Spruce St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor of disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $100 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year.

An additional charge of simple assault was withdrawn.

Schweitzer was charged by Shamokin Cpl. Darwin Tobias III with assaulting his live-in girlfriend, Katherine Bixler, at their residence June 22.

n James W. Horne, 43, of 162-A Fifth St., Ranshaw, waived to court charges of false alarms to public safety agencies, unsworn falsification to authorities, false reports to law enforcement agencies and recklessly endangering another person involving a May 11 incident at his apartment.

The charges were filed by Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Hashuga.

Police said Horne called his sister, Mary Jean Gula, and told her he was attacked inside his apartment by a man with a knife who stabbed him across the torso. Horne told his sister he fired a single gunshot into a wall to scare the intruder off.

Gula then relayed the information to a dispatcher at Northumberland County 911 Center, who dispatched police and emergency personnel to the apartment. Police said it was later learned that Horne lied about being attacked and stabbed.

Police said Horne fired a single bullet from a handgun inside his apartment that traveled through the east wall toward occupied homes in the neighborhood.

n Chad Andrew Zak Wiest, 28, of 340 Milts Road, Sunbury, pleaded guilty to a summary count of disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $100 fine plus costs and make restitution in the amount of $569.43. An additional count of disorderly conduct and charges of criminal mischief and public drunkenness were withdraw.

Wiest was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Scott Weaver in connection with a July 6 disturbance outside 519 S. Eighth St.

n Alexis Hernandez-Roman, 27, of 717 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, waived to court charges of retail theft and criminal conspiracy.

Hernandez-Roman was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Hashuga with stealing $400 to $500 worth of electronic merchandise from Walmart Supercenter along Route 61 on Jan. 1.

n Jason P. Carl, 37, and his live-in girlfriend, Donna Shaffer, 36, of 44 Adams St., Shamokin, waived to court charges of criminal conspiracy and retail theft.

Coal Township Patrolman Terry Ketchem charged the couple with stealing three Nexus tablets and a Nabi Jr. tablet valued at $1,596 from Walmart Supercenter along Route 61 on Aug. 17.

n Christopher Totten, 31, of 616 Bear Valley Ave., Shamokin, waived to court charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property relating to incidents at CVS Pharmacy on Aug. 5 and Aug. 6.

Totten, who was previously charged with five counts of retail theft, is accused of stealing three bottles of Tussin, a Kodak camera and a pack of Sinus medicine.

Shamokin Chief of Police Edward Griffiths filed the charges.

n Cindy Somers, 33, of 845 W. Wood St., Coal Township, pleaded guilty to a summary count of harassment and was ordered to pay a $100 fine plus costs. A charge of simple assault was withdrawn.

Somers was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Chad Yoder with punching her boyfriend, Joseph Boyer, in the face at 845 W. Wood St. on Aug. 11.

n Paul Maund, 41, of 431 Main St., Ranshaw, pleaded guilty to two summary counts of harassment and was ordered to pay fines totaling $200 plus costs. Two counts of simple assault were withdrawn.

Maund was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Chad Yoder with assaulting Loretta Decample and Aaron Pollock at the defendant's residence Aug. 16.
