SHAMOKIN - A 35-year-old Coal Township man accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl in July told a judge he plans to seek help for his criminal behavior.

During his arraignment Tuesday morning on felonies of aggravated indecent assault and unlawful contact with a minor and misdemeanor of indecent assault, Kevin C. Glazik, of 510 N. First St., admitted to committing the crimes and apologized for his actions.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Coal Township Detective Jeff Brennan, Glazik allegedly inappropriately touched an 8-year-old girl at his residence July 27.

Glazik, who was committed by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $75,000 cash bail, told Gembic he plans to seek counseling and enroll in a sexual offender's program. "I'll do anything to get help," he said.

After Gembic explained the seriousness of the charges to Glazik, the defendant's mother, Margie Glazik, asked the judge if he could keep her son out of jail. She said, "I know Kevin made a mistake. He did wrong. But I'm willing to give him a second chance and I hope you (Gembic) and police can give him a second chance. He needs help, but he won't get it in jail."

Mrs. Glazik, who resides with her son and is physically handicapped, told Gembic that the defendant is her only means of transportation.

Gembic said he was obligated to set the bail high due to the seriousness of the charges and advised the defendant to stay out of trouble and avoid hanging out with other inmates at the county jail.

Glazik, who voluntarily appeared for his arraignment, said he plans to secure Joseph Michetti as his attorney for his preliminary hearing that is scheduled for Sept. 17.

The judge told Margie Glazik that she could hire a bail bondsman or put her house up for collateral to get her son out of prison.

Coal Township police were summoned to Glazik's home Aug. 3 for a report of a possible sexual abuse of a child. Police said an unidentified female found Glazik lying in bed naked with the victim.

Brennan said a forensic interview was conducted with the victim Aug. 5. The detective said Glazik admitted to inappropriately touching the victim and having sexual conduct in front of her during an Aug. 14 interview.
