SUNBURY - An incorrect number was reported by the county Tuesday regarding the contract with Blue River Technology and Amazon Web Services regarding Northumberland County's decision to move its computer server storage to "the cloud."
The county initially reported the cost at $5,900 per month, but it will be approximately $3,700 up to a worst-case scenario of $4,100, depending on the amount of data downloaded, said Commissioner Stephen Bridy.
Also, Amazon, not Blue River, actually provides the power backup.
The cloud is a data storage concept that has become common in delivering hosted services over the Internet rather than through in-house servers. It provides easier access and clients pay by capacity and need, much like a utility.
