Church yard sale set for today

PAXINOS - St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Blue Church Road and Airport Road, will hold a special church yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the church.

All items, including a lunch being served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be on a donation basis, with all donations benefiting the building fund.

Open mic tonight

SELINSGROVE - Peppers: The Artisans' Collective, an art gallery in Selinsgrove, and Popular Outcast Podcast are hosting Mike's No Mic Open Mic Night from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight.

The event, which takes place at 38 S. Market St., is looking for stand-up comics, spoken word poets, storytellers and other performers to entertain audience members.

Interested performers are asked to sign up at 6:30 p.m.

The show is free and open to the public.

Prayer service for peace

MOUNT CARMEL - In response to the call of Pope Francis to designate today as a "Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace in Syria, the Middle East and the Whole World," the Rev. Frank Karwacki and members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 47 S. Market St., will pray the Angelus and Rosary at noon and the statement of Pope Francis will be read.

All are invited to join in the prayers.

Sierra Club get-together

MIFFLINBURG - The Otzinachson Group of the Sierra Club will hoss members and the public at a casual get together Sunday at the R.B. Winter State Park, Pavilion 1.

The event is intended to provide an opportunity for environmentally-minded individuals to come together and connect with others, meet group and club leadership and celebrate long-term Sierra Club Members. The event is free to the public.

Refreshments will be served at 1:30 p.m. Jack Miller, Otzinachson Group chair, will present 25- and 40-year certificates to longtime members.

An optional hike will be held in the morning. Those interested in participating in the hike should arrive by 11:30 a.m.

Guest speakerJohn Childe, attorney for the Pennsylvania Environmental Defense Foundation, will speak at approximately 2 p.m. about his organization's lawsuit against Gov. Tom Corbett alleging mismanagement of the Oil and Gas Lease Fund and increased reliance on drilling to fund the maintenance of state parks and forests.
