ELYSBURG - The 94th annual All Home Days being celebrated this Labor Day weekend in Ralpho Township will feature a mini-marathon, a parade, a car show, free entertainment and plenty of other activities at the Elysburg Community Park.
As part of the celebration, Giant Food Stores will donate a new electronic baseball scoreboard to Ralpho Township Community Park and dedicate the Little League field as the Glenn Herring Memorial Field in memory of the late Coach Glenn Herring, founder of Elysburg's Little League and teener league baseball programs.
Herring's son, Giant President Rick Herring, other family members and former players will attend the dedication at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Coach Herring, who passed away in 2011, was active in baseball for more than 30 years. He played and managed Elysburg's adult amateur team in the late 1950s, and he started the youth programs in the 1960s.
Additionally, the annual parade will be themed "Baseball" and all groups, organizations, businesses and individuals are encouraged to participate by registering at 10:30 a.m. The parade will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Elysburg Alliance Church parking lot and will end at the community park.
Monday evening will feature "Double Talk" from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with Vic Boris in a tribute to those now serving and those who served in the armed forces. This program, featuring speakers, music and much more, will be from 6:30 through 8 p.m., concluding the celebration.
Returning this year are basket bingo, horseshoe tournaments, a car show, sumo wrestling and the Rotary Club's Run for Fun 5K.
The three-day All Home Days event, which began in the autumn of 1919 to welcome home the World War I troops and has continued throughout the years to honor both veterans from the past and present, will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
