SASB extends transportation contract

COAL TOWNSHIP - Shamokin Area School Board extended its transportation contract with Marvin E. Klinger Inc. of Dornsife.

Directors approved a $1,146,400 transportation contract for the 2013-14 school year and established a mileage rate of $2.30 per mile, waiting time rate of $10.11 per hour and minimum trip charge of $54 plus waiting time for extra-curricular activities.

The board also renewed a one-year service agreement with Blackboard Inc. for access to ALERTNOW, a parent communication system, at a cost of $5,359.50.

Directors revised the regular education tuition rates for students attending Northwestern Academy from $39.17 per day to $41.18 per day.

A three-year maintenance agreement was renewed with Trane Parts & Service Co. for the centrifugal chiller system at the elementary school at $6,745 for the first year, $7,015 for the second year, and $7,296 for the third year.

An Act 48 program placement agreement with Justice Works Youth Care Inc. was approved that will provide alternative education for disruptive youth at a cost of $69 per day for regular education students and $79 per day for special education students.

Klacik & Associates was hired to conduct an audit of district tax collectors for July 1 to Dec. 31, 2012, at a cost not to exceed $5,500.

The board approved the sale of 43 properties from the county tax claims bureau's repository list through public auction or private bid.

Directors waived outstanding real estate/liens on blighted properties at 244 S. Franklin St. and 137 S. Seventh St. so they can be demolished by the City of Shamokin.

Christina Venna, a student in the master's program for school counseling at Bloomsburg University, was granted permission to complete an internship with high school guidance counselor Matthew Weller, beginning Monday.

Miller-Donmoyer Family Health Care operated by Drs. Wayne Miller and Duane Donmoyer was reappointed as school physicians for the 2013-2014 school year at $2,500 each for two physicians plus $4.75 for each mandated physical and $20 for PIAA sports physicals.

Miller also was reappointed as football physician at a stipend of $50 per game.

Drs. Vincent J. Paczkoskie and Ernest L. Steinhart were reappointed as school dental examiners at a rate of $1.50 per dental exam.

The board approved the purchase and installation of a new fire alarm system at the elementary school for $38,995 from Simplex Grinnell.

Ethel Dinklocker, Jill Faust, William Funk, Kayleen Griffiths, Angela Hausman, Christine Sosnoskie, Joseph Sanzotto, Sharon Stone, Harry Whary and Allen Zawalick were added to the event security list at compensation of $8.15 per hour ($25 minimum per event).

Numerous ticket sellers/takers, judges, clock operators, timers, scorers, announcers, camera personnel and statisticians were approved at various pay rates.

Pat DiRienzo was appointed head coach of the ninth grade football team at a salary of $2,331, which is a 15 percent reduction from last year.

Rod Snyder (girls soccer), Veronica Witmer (girls soccer), Gary Scandle (junior high football), Tad Kalcich (boys soccer) and Larry Wade (boys soccer) were approved as volunteer coaches.

Robert Nye was reappointed as program director for the community swim program at $18.50 per hour, while Kathy Jeremiah was reappointed swimnastics instructor at a salary of $300.

The following music instructors were appointed or reappointed at 35 percent reduced compensation from last year:

Kevin Styer, high school band director, $3,315; Sharon Styer, assistant marching band director, $780; Beth Gensemer, band front adviser, $390; Daniel Shuman, drill instructor, $422.50; Jessica Bainbridge, drill instructor, $325; Sharon Styer, percussion instructor, $422.50; Mary Anne Stump, chorus director, $585; Barbara DeGaetano, high school orchestra director, $780; Kevin Styer, musical director, $1,755; Mary Anne Stump, producer, $845; Scott Anderson, musical light/sound technician, $390, and Shawn McGugan, musical art director, $650.

Ann Thomas and Margaret Cox were appointed personal care aides for the special education program at $8.25 per hour for 180 days per year and 6 1/2 hours per day.
