Teens attend youth quest

GETTYSBURG - Two area students, Amy Frasch, of Shamokin Area Middle/High School, and Christina Kleman, of Mount Carmel Junior/Senior High School, attended the Richard Bartol Youth Quest from July 28 to Aug. 1 at Gettysburg College.

Frasch is a daughter of Jody and Raymond Frasch, of Trevorton Road. She was nominated for the honor by her seventh-grade history teacher, Elizabeth Corcoran.

Kleman is a daughter of Marie and Joseph Kleman, of Locust Gap. She was nominated by her seventh-grade communications teacher, Matthew Cuttic.

Each student submitted three short essays and three letters of recommendation. The two students were chosen from 25 rising upcoming ninth graders from Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia.

During their time in Gettysburg, the girls explored the battlefield through the eyes of the military leaders, had exclusive access to the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War and the Gettysburg Cyclorama painting at the National Military Park Museum.

The girls took part in a low ropes course, walked the footsteps of President Lincoln, developed leadership skills, strategies and goals, They also experienced the life of a college student while residing in dorm rooms, meeting professors and interacting with current college students.

The Youth Quest is funded by donors of the Education ISO Initiative.
