Mayor salutes church's 125th

MOUNT CARMEL - Mayor J. Kevin Jones has proclaimed Saturday as St. Matthew's Slovak Lutheran Church Day in the borough with this message:

"St. Matthew's Slovak Lutheran Church ('The Little Church on the Corner') has been part of our community for 125 years. Many outstanding members have come from the congregation and have contributed to our community's growth and success. Whether in business, military service, social activity, civic organizations or government, they have served with pride and offered their religious support to all who are in need. On behalf of borough council and all our citizens, we honor St. Matthew's and its members and pray for their continued success in the future."

Card players wanted

MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Senior Action Center seeks canasta, bridge, pinochle and chess players. The center is located at 41 S. Market St. and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Call 339-4457 for more information.

AA meetings planned

MOUNT CARMEL - Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are planned for this weekend at St. Stephen's Center, 45 W. Fourth St.

They will be held at noon and 7 p.m. today and Sunday and at noon Saturday.
