The summer of 2013 if flying by. Be sure to get out and enjoy all that the Susquehanna River Valley has to offer in August.
Festivals are everywhere and so is music. You'll find concerts in Sunbury's Cameron Park, Hufnagle Park in Lewisburg, Lincoln Park in Milton, the Slifer House Museum, Shikellamy State Park's Overlook and the Marina, Central Oak Heights (between Milton and Lewisburg), Wolfgang Park in Catawissa and at the gazebo in Selinsgrove.
History and heritage lovers will have a wealth of experiences to immerse themselves in this August. Learn more about Joseph Priestley during "Oxygen Day" at the Joseph Priestley House Museum on Aug. 4 and head to the Bottles and Brews tasting at the Thomas Taber Museum in Williamsport Aug. 9 and learn more about 19th and early 20th century flasks and bottles.
History buffs from across the region will not want to miss the Northumberland County Historical Society's Colonial Crafts Demonstration Day, which is also held Aug. 10 in Sunbury on the grounds of the Hunter House Museum on Front Street, or explore our coal mining heritage at Pioneer Day Celebration at Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine in Ashland on Aug. 17.
Outdoor adventures in August include photograph and flashlight tours at Lincoln Caverns. And don't forget nearby R.B. Winter State Park, Bald Eagle State Forest, Milton State Park and Shikellamy State Park for hiking, biking, boating and fishing.
Art lovers will want to check out the Summer Salon at Bucknell's Samek Art Gallery, on display through Sept. 1, which features Bucknell University's museum collection with pieces of the university's history dating back to 1853. The Downtown Art Gallery of Bucknell University presents Cheryl Kelley: Detailed, a series of photorealist oil paintings, open through Sept. 29.
It's hard to believe that I've barely scratched the surface of things to do in August. Please check out VisitCentralPA.org to learn more about the events I've shared here plus more fun events such as Shakespeare in the Park events in Milton and Lewisburg and the Little League World Series.
