Alumni banquet set for Saturday
COAL TOWNSHIP - The Coal Township High School Alumni Association will celebrate its 77th anniversary with a banquet at Brady Fire Company Banquet Hall on Saturday, May 25. All alumni members are urged to attend and reconnect with classmates.
In 2012, 214 members attended, 10 percent of the total membership. The last graduating class was in 1965. The class of 1936 was represented.
Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. Anniversary classes will be recognized and pictures are available. An afterglow will be held after a brief business meeting, with entertainment by the Shoreliners.
Theresa Targonski Sandri, class of 1943, nominating committee chairperson, will present a recommendation for the slate of officers for 2013-14. Nominations are encouraged from the floor.
President Samuel Weaver reported the association continues to serve the community and young people. In the last year, 27 high school graduates have received $61,000 in Coal Township Alumni Scholarship money. The funds received from class and individual donations to the scholarship fund and the generosity of the Andrew C. Long Foundation will continue to finance CTHS scholarships well into the future.
