SHAMOKIN - Eleven contestants picked 11 out of 12 games correctly in week seven of The News-Item Football Contest.
After using the tie-breaker, it was determined that Tony McGinley, of 215 S. Walnut St., Mount Carmel. was this week's top winner of a $50 gift certificate from the contest's participating sponsors, guessing 47 points as the week's top score. Both Louisville and Michigan scored 45 points in their wins Saturday.
Daniel Deromedi, of 23 S. Fourth St., Frackville, was awarded second place with his scoring guess of 48 points, winning a $25 gift certificate. Three entrants correctly picked 11 games and guessed 49 points as the top score, prompting judges to hold a random drawing to pick the third place winner of a $15 gift certificate.
Mary Ann Wojcik, of 1255 Chestnut St., Kulpmont was named third place winner. Missing out on the prize were Len Tocyloski, 1321 Poplar St., Kulpmont, and Ed Ososkie of 347 N. Oak St., Mount Carmel.
The three prizewinners, two finalists and all those that picked 11 out of 12 games correctly will be entered into the $200 grand prize drawing at the end of the season. Those entered were: Matthew Schiccatano, of 2052 Stetler Drive, Coal Township; Ben Kehler Sr. of 1141 W. Mulberry St., Coal Township; James Lesko, of 222 S. Grape St., Mount Carmel; Joe Consevage, of 33 S. Spruce St., Mount Carmel; Carolyn Yodis, of 10 S. Locust St., Mount Carmel; Mearl Spotts, of 507 Overlook Blvd., Shamokin, and Lou Ebright, of 306 S. Pearl St., Shamokin.
