Mail scam
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police here issued a warning to citizens about a mail scam being conducted in the area.
Police said retired people are receiving a letter informing them about joining a national retirement fund from White Plains, N.Y. The letter requests the recipient to complete an enclosed form detailing personal information such as bank account and Social Security numbers and return the form.
Simple assault
EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - Charges of simple assault and harassment were filed by Trooper Daniel Wilk of state police at Stonington against Mark D. Carl, 55, of 3882 Upper Road, Shamokin, and Justin D. Carl, 23, of 1046 W. Willow St., Coal Township.
According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Mark D. Carl is accused of shoving Sharon M. Carl after a verbal dispute in a driveway at 5609 Lower Road, East Cameron Township, shortly after 9 p.m. Oct. 5.
Police said when David Eugene Brown Jr. attempted to separate the parties, he was assaulted by Mark D. and Justin D. Carl. Police said Mark D. Carl allegedly struck Brown in the head with a bottle, while both defendants repeatedly kicked Brown in the head and neck area, causing Brown to suffer facial lacerations and bruising.
Criminal trespass
KULPMONT - Thaddieus J. Allan-Marcheski, 23, of 700 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, was charged by Patrolman Michael Pitcavage with criminal trespass, simple assault and disorderly conduct relating to a disturbance at 8:15 p.m. Thursday at 1328 Poplar St., Kulpmont.
Police reported Allan-Marcheski is accused of slamming the front door of the Poplar Street residence on the hand of Brett Yuschock and pushing him into a closet door.
Cruelty to animals
MOUNT CARMEL - Oscar Keller, 35, of North Oak Street, Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Kevin Katch with cruelty to animals involving an incident that occurred at 9:34 p.m. Sept. 28 in the first block of North Oak Street.
Police said Keller is accused of threatening to stab the dog and have someone shoot it after several people found the canine running loose and attempted to return it to Keller, who refused to take custody of the dog. The canine was kept by the person who found it, police said.
Harassment
MOUNT CARMEL - Patrolman Matt Dillman has cited Robert Powers, 27, of 228 E. Seventh St., Mount Carmel, for harassment in connection with an incident at 9:23 p.m. Sept. 18 in the 300 block of South Beech Street.
Police said Powers grabbed a female by the face and pushed her into a vehicle.
Dog runs at large
MOUNT CARMEL - Scott Pancher, 38, of 336 N. Hickory St., Mount Carmel, was cited by Patrolman Jason Drumheller for allowing his dog to run at large, which violates a borough ordinance.
Police received a complaint that a male juvenile walking down the street in Pancher's neighborhood was bit by the dog in the leg after it exited Pancher's yard at 4:25 p.m. Aug. 23.
Harassment
MOUNT CARMEL - Lisa Ann Whispell, 31, of 229 W. Seventh St., Mount Carmel, was cited by Cpl. Chris Buhay for harassment relating to a disturbance at 12:15 p.m. Sept. 21.
Police said Whispell allegedly harassed Rachael Williams by yelling and threatening to assault her.
Accident charges
MOUNT CARMEL - Patrolman Matt Dillman has cited Jason Andrew Dillow, 28, of 434 N. Walnut St., Mount Carmel, for failure to provide information and render aid in connection with a vehicle-pedestrian accident at Third and Walnut streets at 6:34 p.m. Sept. 16.
Police said Jason Zacek was walking across the street with another person when Dillow's vehicle struck him. Dillow then fled the scene, police said.
Zacek was transported by AREA Services Ambulance to a local medical facility for treatment following the accident.
Retail theft
MOUNT CARMEL - Patrolman David Donkochik has cited a 16-year-old Coal Township male for retail theft for allegedly stealing items from the Dollar General store on South Market Street at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 29.
Drunkenness charge
SHAMOKIN - Matthew Raynor, 26, of 101 S. Franklin St., Shamokin, was cited by Cpl. Darwin Tobias III for public drunkenness relating to a disturbance at 9:09 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of South Pearl Street.
Police said Raynor refused to obey orders from police to desist his unruly behavior and possessed an open container of alcohol.
Disorderly conduct
SHAMOKIN - Gary L. Reigle II, 26, of 236 S. Coal St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with disorderly conduct for screaming inside and outside his home at 4:40 a.m. Saturday.
Theft of services
SHAMOKIN - Kenneth Trocker, 60, of 338 W. Arch St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Nathan Rhodes with theft of services for placing a trash bag in a neighbor's garbage can at 418 W. Arch St. at 12:11 p.m. Monday.
Criminal trespass
SHAMOKIN - Brandon Carl Campbell, 24, of 112 S. Second St., Shamokin, was cited by Cpl. Darwin Tobias III for criminal trespass and criminal mischief relating to an incident at 12:41 a.m. Oct. 5 at 126 N. Marshall St.
Police reported Campbell broke a window while entering the abandoned house.
