HERNDON - The Herndon Armed Forces Memorial Fund Committee is conducting a fund drive to restore the borough's World War II Memorial Board.
The committee has formed a non-profit organization and distributed more than a hundred letters to the family and friends of service people listed on the board. The committee has also contacted local businesses to seek financial help.
The committee is also looking for an appropriate location to refurbish and relocate the memorial board. The original board was dedicated in 1943 and is now fading, committee members noted.
The primary initiative is to procure a plot of land within the borough, place the board, landscape the area and add more memorials honoring other brave local service people. The committee is also looking for photos, preferably in uniform, of those whose names are included on the board.
Regardless of the result, the board will be restored and displayed in a place of honor within the borough.
