COAL TOWNSHIP - Rosalie Smoogen, a resident of Shamokin Township, has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Shamokin Area School Board.

Smoogen began her employment with the district in 1978 in the office of the federal programs coordinator. After being transferred into the accounts payable position in the business office, she has continued to work in that position for the last 34 years.

"I do believe that my many years of experience and knowledge with district financial business would be an asset to the board," Smoogen said.

Commenting on the declining economy and cuts in funding, Smoogen said, "It will be very important to evaluate how tax dollars are being spent while making sure that every district tax dollar is being programmed on a quality education for all our students. Education should be our number one priority."

She feels that every voice on the board must be heard in order to make a difference and working together is essential.

If elected as a representative of the district, she stated, "I will strive to work hard with all members of the board to bring back integrity and will do my best to do what is right for all taxpayers, employees and students."
